Hi, my name is Daniel Harnish. I wanted to see students become successful in ASL, give full access to Deaf Community, and be very respectful to Deaf people. I firmly believe in using Approach and Method through teaching in the classroom. I will discuss three different of methods: Direct Method, Series Method, and Total Physical Response.
Direct Method is a part of Target Language. American Sign Language (ASL) is 100% of the whole language to communicate in the classroom. It is best to have 15 to 20 students in the classroom. DM can use signs without a voice. “A Language could best be taught by using it actively in the classroom.” (page 11).
Almost similar apply to Berlitz Schools:
Series Method is part of the exchange of words to apply the sign by vocabulary. I can use the example with a ball to apply the sports, size, play.
Total Physical Response is teaching language through physical activity. It can apply to use group activities, student pairs, and playing games through sign language. For example, I will give a paper to a student and tell student A to write the name and pass it to student b. Student b will follow what my instruction and student B will do it. That’s my firm belief that my three frequently used teaching approaches will ensure that my students succeed in using ASL and providing full accessibility for the Deaf community. Thank you for watching my video.
